Never before in history have slippers caused such a stir in the sneaker world as the Nike Mind 001. Slippers that sold out worldwide in a matter of minutes and are now being resold for many times higher prices. The Nike Mind 001 was available in Solar Red, Photon Dust and Hyper Crimson, with the Photon Dust variant, i.e. the grey colour, being the one I managed to snag. If you prefer to wear classic sneakers over slippers, then you will be pleased to know that Nike will soon also release the Nike Mind 002, which are classic lace-up sneakers that use the same technology as these slippers, i.e. the technology that Nike calls Mind. The original price for the slippers was €89,99, but they are currently being resold for at least double, but often much more expensive.
The packaging itself is interesting only because of the graphic representation of the points on your feet that the points in the slippers are focused on, otherwise it is a classic box that Nike has used for many years. However, once you open the package, you will see slippers with a rather futuristic design. However, it must be added that they look much less extravagant or futuristic on the foot than when you see them without shoes.
An interesting feature is the vertically positioned Nike logo, the so-called swoosh, on the side of the shoe. The upper part is breathable so that the foot can breathe, and the back part is of course cut out so that you can easily put the shoes on and take them off without having to bend over. The first thing you probably ask is whether walking in these shoes doesn't hurt. The clear answer is: not only does it not hurt, but basically even if you are heavier and logically put more strain on individual points than, for example, a 50-pound lady, you don't really feel anything pressing on your feet. The individual orange points are made of a stronger material than the rest of the shoe and press on the foot, but in a very gentle way and walking is not uncomfortable at all.
On the contrary, what takes away from the comfort for me is the upper part covering the instep. I feel that the shoe could be softer here, and I also think that it is much better to wear them with socks than barefoot. First of all, because of the comfort in the upper part, but also because your foot will sweat significantly less.
As for the Nike Mind sense itself, those orange nubs are supposed to gently massage sensory receptors in your foot as you walk, which they do. Thanks to more than a decade of Nike research and testing, the 22 individual foam nubs are designed precisely to transfer the texture of the surface under the sole to the bottom of your foot. Nike itself claims that Nike Mind technology will help engage your senses, activate them, and clear away unwanted thoughts so you can focus more on the environment and the moment. This is a shoe you should wear before a game. Expecting it to make you more focused on your work if you wear it in the office is nonsense. This is a shoe you should wear in the locker room, on the stadium, on the field, on the circuit, or anywhere you play sports.
For this reason, I feel that the shoe is much more designed for professional athletes than for ordinary people who just go to play football, basketball or go for a run. The difference you will feel is not at all dizzying and wearing the Nike Mind 001 will definitely not give you any significantly better skills on the field. On the other hand, for a professional, who is always expected to perform at his best and who is looked after by dozens of assistants, coaches, physiotherapists and the like, it is something that can improve his concentration by about 0,5%. And that can then be that one decisive basket, goal or a thousandth better time.
On the other hand, it's something that most people do anyway - you just wear shoes. And if you wear slippers, why not wear ones that can give you something. Nike itself does not present these shoes as something you should wear non-stop, but as part of a pre-match routine. However, if you normally wear slippers, you can wear these. They certainly will not make you a better athlete, but they are comfortable slippers, and even if they should bring you 0,00001% better concentration or performance, why not take advantage of it, since you wear shoes anyway. However, do not expect any miracles from them that you would feel significantly as an ordinary person. However, I believe that they will find their application in professional sports.
